LEARNING - VIDEO

VIDEO AS EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

This project consists of a learning resource written by Don Bergland. It includes an instructional manual (141 pages), 2 CD-ROMs, and a supporting website. This resource is a program in media literacy for classroom teachers and explores the use of video in the classroom. It deals with the concept of video, definitions, categories, media literacy, and television/cable broadcasting. It provides detailed instructions and techniques for downloading, processing, and presenting video. Also examined are the basics of mediaform development which accompany video production (still image, audio, video). The program provides detailed information relating to the work involved in the production of video content. This includes the basics of content production (still images, text, voice, music, sfx) and video production using cameras as well as a variety of motion image issues and problems using Adobe Premiere. Since its completion, the resource has been featured in the graduate curriculum at Lesley University’s Technology in Education Program (TIE), in Massachussets and has been taught in Missouri, Montana, South Carolina, and Washington. It is scheduled to be taught in Idaho and Nevada in 2005. In all cohorts environments where the resource content is presented, student evaluation relating to the validity and usefulness of the content has been a perfect score (5.0 out of 5.0).
