LEARNING - SURREY

HANDS-ON CLAY

Don Bergland acted as media producer for the CD-ROM aspect of this project. He consulted on the development of the textbook and took leadership in the construction of the accompanying interactive CD-ROM. The resource, called Hands-On Clay, was commissioned by the Surrey Art Centre in Surrey, BC and introduces the skills, techniques and practices of Sally Michener, a noted artist working in the medium of clay. It provides a number of hands-on clay projects dealing with clay sculpture and generally emphasizes process over product. It offers instructions for working with clay in classroom settings, hundreds of extension ideas, and activities for additional integrated learning in other subject areas. Hands-On Clay is a teaching and learning resource for the Surrey museum, in-house workshops and teaching in the Art Centre, and is also available for loan by schools for use in individual classrooms in the district.

THE "HANDS-ON CLAY" PROJECT

  Hands-On Clay
The Hands-On Clay media project consisted of a written manual, resource images and slides, instructional materials, and an interactive CD-ROM.
