LIFTOFF TEACHER'S GUIDE

This project consists of a teacher’s learning guide written by Don Bergland and published by ETI Entertainment Technologies and Ingenuity Works Inc. Telefilm Canada, The Telus BC New Media Fund, and Industry Canada provided funding for the project. The project was also assisted by NASA Education, the Canadian Space Agency, and the US Space and Rocket Centre. The Liftoff Teachers Guide focuses on the multimedia CD-ROM project earlier produced by ETI. This product was an interactive Space Shuttle simulator developed under licence to NASA and designed for both home and educational markets. The liftoff Teacher’s Guide provides 126 pages of specific instructions for bringing the LIFTOFF product experience into the classroom. Used with the LIFTOFF CD-ROM, the teacher can select a lesson based on product, subject, or theme. The Guide focuses on 5 themes: Liftoff Program, Machines, Environment, Teamwork, and Careers. The Guide allows the themes to be taught through Language Arts, Mathematics, Music, PE, Science, Social Studies, and Visual Art. Teachers can consult an organizing schema to select a lesson based on Product, Subject, or Theme. The guide contains 14 complete lessons organized around standard lesson plan categories. Lessons are generally written for grades 4-7, but can easily be applied to other grade levels. The Liftoff Guide is currently available as a learning adjunct to the Liftoff product and is available in Canada in both English and French, It is retailed at major science centres, major software retailers, and through the Ingenuity Works e-commerce site. In the US, Liftoff and the Teachers Guide is sold in association with the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, home of U.S. Space Camp. It is also available through NASA's visitor centers at its major sites, Kennedy Space Center, Space Center Houston, and US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, which attract over three million visitors per year.
