LEARNING - EAC

ELECTRONIC ARTS

.

This project was designed and implemented by Don Bergland while he was on leave as Director of Visual and Audio Arts at Electronic Arts (Canada). The objective of the project was to create a training program for the company’s department of computer graphic artists. The artists in the company were some of the most highly talented and skilled computer graphic artists in the world. The expectation was that they would grow in ability, understand current design and production changes and trends, and provide innovation and creative direction in their areas of specialty. The training program had to address these concerns as well as remain a viable and flexible forum for professional development. Don began to establish the foundations for this program by establishing an expanded studio containing both digital and traditional tools, acquiring innovative resources and instructional materials, and beginning a talent database which processed growth and development in observable and measurable ways. The department began regular meetings to address conceptual problems and issues and design training procedures to solve them.
