Don
Bergland was the senior designer and producer for this large-scale
educational teaching studio project. First approached in 1999
by Bodwell International Schooling executives, Don was retained
as a consultant to design and implement complete curriculum,
studio. and facility plans for a new school which taught multimedia
concepts to professional career aspirants. Don produced a
school design based on the ideas and theories he had been
developing at the University of Victoria and in his work with
industry and corporate studios in the Pacific Northwest. The
school opened in September, 1999 in temporary facilities but
with a complete curriculum. During the Fall of 1999, Don worked
with his team in designing permanent school and studio facilities
that had been acquired in heritage properties Bank of Montreal
at Pender and Granville in the center of downtown Vancouver.
Over the next several years, Don’s leadership in school
and studio design would help the school make interesting transitions
and changes. By 2002, Bodwell Internet school was one of the
most successful Internet training schools in the Pacific Northwest
generating over a million dollars a year in income.
Bodwell Multimedia/Internet School was a
viable training institution providing Internet training skills
to potential career professionals in the industry. Don Bergland
had brought the school to a successful point in its history
by developing an innovative curriculum and a supporting studio
structure. As a teacher educator, however, Don determined
that the school needed to have a program that provided instructional
training to its staff of highly skilled instructors. These
instructors were talented performers and producers in their
own sphere of expertise, e.g., animation, programming, graphics,
video, etc., but usually had no training in the delivery of
effective education. Don created an Instructor Training Program
which featured regular workshops, clinical supervision, classroom
analysis and assessments, and instructor remediation. The
program ran successfully for several years and was responsible
for providing effective career development for many industry
instructors. |
