| While
working as a Director for Electronic Arts, Don initiated an
onsite artistic performance activity he called, the Bureau of
Imagination (BOI). The BOI was a series of “live”
weekly performance events presented within corporate industry.
The weekly performances occurred within the full company meeting
presentation and were stand-up verbal/overhead projector presentations
satirizing company behavior, individuals, projects, decisions,
and policy. They used visual imagery selected from Life magazines
(1939-1954) and a fast-paced verbal script written by Don. They
became popular performance items and were readily accepted as
part of company culture. The BOI achieved international status
when it was presented as a feature event at the Worldwide Graphics
Conference in 1994. BOI events were highly planned entertainment
structures which used the styles and formats developed by Don
Bergland in his performance career. This project was pursued
within corporate industry as an example of creative production
within a context. It uses the routines invented during Projects
2, 3, and 7. These routines are part of Don’s creative
methodology and state that creative artists must manifest creative
behavior within the contexts they find themselves. |
