Don’s designed the image effects and led the creative
team in the development of this international project. It consisted
of digitally applying visual enhancements to action sports imagery
in order to effect a variety of emotional, formal, and expressive
results.. The objective of the process was to expand the use
of basic photographs and allow them to be used in different
contexts such as posters, advertising, promotion, and on various
objects. The clients in the project were a British company called
BigFanOF. This company owned many of the contracts of major
British sports stars and were interested in developing a program
whereby they could use their huge inventory of sports photographs
in unique ways. The project had many variations and progressed
through developments over a two-year period. The first stage
focused on the investigation of appropriate general strategies
for still action photography. The second stage involved the
development of effects for photos of Sam Torrance who had just
recently won the Ryder cup. This resulted in a very original
oil painting technique which became proprietary to the company.
The third stage focused on the current European soccer star,
Yoshi, whose action shots were renown. A website was constructed
using the Yoshi imagery showing the variety of different effects
which could be applied. Again, this work duplicated the academic
direction of Don’s digital work which was exploring the
area of image effects. |
