RADIO SAVOY

This product was an audio CD which featured the best comedy of Don Bergland and Colin Yardley. Content included a number of independent audio montages ranging from 10 seconds to 5 minutes in length. The comedy was offbeat, satirical, and forced listeners to examine cherished beliefs in the spotlight of a new perspective. Once again, the comedy style was an evolution of content and approach which utilized early radio and performance work. The project was a distillation of content and structure that was developed through a vigorous program of analogue audio exploration together with skills that had been developed in the digital studio. In his downtown loft studio overlooking Victoria, Don worked on refining audio production techniques with colleague, Colin Yardley. Together they transformed their sets of analogue skills in the studios of CFUV-FM. They spent months converting the skillsets to digital forms and finally put together a subtle comedy product called Radio Savoy. This was distributed in the form of an audio CD.

Deluxe Lunacy

This short audio drama introduces the non sequitur as a favorite technique. We are shown a universal drama occurring between mother and son. All voices by Don.

Tournament

Another favorite topic for Don is the wild and unrestrained burst of vocal information that is present in our media culture. This feature examines one such frenzy of verbal exposition.

Balloon Animals

This presentation is another bizarre satirization of standard radio presentation formats. The announcer instructs us in the construction of a radio balloon poodle.

Film Phrases

This feature is a rather strange informational presentation of foreign film phrases. It once again explores a favored technique of the unattained resolution.

Toilet Seat Sales

This is a strange advertising concept for customized toilet seats. It satirizes and dramatically emphasizes standard commercial techniques for its presentation.

Drug Game

This is a presentation of a unique game concept. Presented as an advertisement, it is another subtle commentary on our current cultural media directions.

Street Slaughter

This piece is another satirical exploration of contemporary media and the directions it is taking in its media presentations.

This is another unique cultural presentation exploring the manipulation of reality for entertainment purposes. All voices by Don.
