This project was a regular radio show broadcast at CFUV-FM in
Victoria, BC throughout 1992 and 1993. Once again, this project
was based on Don’s early exploration in context exhibition
and voicing and was another investigation of personal creative
expression through available media. The project grew out of
the context performance pieces earlier explored at the university
and extended to broadcast media through radio. Don had radio
broadcast training and the medium was familiar to him. The radio
show began as a set newsmagazine format and was transformed
by Don into a “bizarre arrangement of dislocated sound
effects, electric humor, and musical juxtapositions which seriously
challenged the mental structures of the listener.” Over
several years, the radio show evolved into a personally creative
outlet for some of Don’s growing ideas concerning radio
broadcasting and creative audio production. During his radio
associations, he established contact with key figures in the
audio art world such as experimental audio artist, Jim Andrews.
These associations later led to a variety of invitational performances
and presentations. This project fulfilled Don’s studio
research agenda and the creative findings led immediately to
high-end audio production with a variety of industry agents.
This project continued to establish Don as a creative maverick
in the community with a serious agenda for reforming the standard
template assigned to academics.. |
