Don Bergland has had a dynamic career as an interpretive landscape
painter. This career progressed over 25 years and resulted in
the creation of over 1,600 individual paintings presented in
over 80 local, national. and international exhibitions. The
career focused on traditional paintings (acrylic on canvas)
and their exhibition in gallery settings. First begun in 1970,
the project progressed through 4 stages. The stages focused
on developing the most appropriate styles for representing philosophical
interpretations for the concept of “exile.” Don’s
solution to this aesthetic issue occurred in 1980 and his unique
style was born. He continued modifying this style until 1996.
His career was pursued as a highly focused business emphasizing
regular gallery exhibitions, the development of a support clientele,
and progressive visual developments showcasing a unique personal
style. In 1996, Don gave up traditional painting to pursue digital
art full-time. In 2004, Don began a studio review of his traditional
painting style and potential integrations with styles he has
explored as a digital artist. He has employed a variety of early
sketches and designed a digital process of re-creating his early
style in a digital format. It is interesting to note a current
historical revival of Don’s traditional work. Early in
2000, Don’s paintings have received regular promotion
and cultural revival in the world auction markets. His early
paintings have started to appear in major international auctions
alongside artists such as Maxwell Bates, Alex Colville, Franklin
Carmichael, Ted Harrison, Christopher Pratt, Mary Pratt, and
others. |
