CREATIVE - DIGITAL ART

DIGITAL ART

Don Bergland has explored the production of digital art in an intense manner. His first computer graphics experience began in the multimedia studios at the University of BC in 1985. Over the years, he slowly started introducing more and more software concepts into his studio practise until today, his creative involvement is totally digital. His digital art output has almost equaled the very large output of his traditional painting career and comprises thousands of completed images and interactive productions. In this phase of his life, he has produced digital work which falls into several distinct categories. From 1992 to 1997, his period of Early Digital Exploration involved much experimentation with software to learn to develop a structured style. This period also included much work in industry in realizing digital concepts for clients and designated target audiences. From 1997 to 1999, his period of Investigations included the primary use of Photoshop to construct traditional painting simulations. From 1999 to 2003, his period of 2D Fusion Overlays explored the range of contemporary digital artists and the growing styles associated with fusion styles and the use of Photoshop fragment overlays in achieving image dimension. In the period he currently occupies called 3D Modeling Integrations, he is primarily interested in the combinative use of 3D modeling programs and Photoshop in creating images. His current stylings include a heavy focus on fusion overlays and 3D integrated image elements. He has been heavily influenced by the Scandanavian design group, Metalheart, and works primarily in the structural formats developed by this group. In addition to personal expression, he has also pursued a number of industrial and corporate genres within the area. These include experimental art, interactive art, corporate production, advertising art, promotional imagery, information graphics, multimedia, and contemporary fusion design. The entire basis of his research program in techno-ethnography is based on the issues arising in the digital studio.
