CREATIVE - ANIMATION - SAVOY CITY

SAVOY CITY

Savoy City Television was an animated adult television feature based on the satirical stylings created in Culture Canada, Radio Savoy, and Redmond Radio Revival. Don Bergland and Colin Yardley deconstructed the main features of Redmond Radio Revival and recomposed them as a hard-edged animated television feature which presented an unusual psychological dimension called “Savoy.” Savoy referred to a psychological dimension of perception that had been evolving in their work. It was an unusual modern condition that had the story inhabitants living their lives with passionate intensity directed towards strange self-destructive obsessions. This state of existence was showcased in Savoy City through small integrated vignettes featuring a host of characters such as Rocko Delgado, Figwina Applebaum, and Reverend Norm. The project was sponsored and supported by Vancouver-based ETI Entertainment Technologies Inc. who developed animated prototypes for the series. The television proposal was entertained by WIC Television Network for over a 2-year period. The project explored a wide variety of draft innovations and worked with some of the top animation houses in the Pacific Northwest.
