Don
Bergland’s interpretation of the academic life is based
on the flexibility offered in the Faculty of Education at
the University of Victoria. In the documentation regarding
academic duty, allowances are provided which offer a viable
structure for work which is compatible with his nature and
talents. These primarily focus on the acceptability of creative
production as an alternative to publication and traditional
research.
Don’s
approach to the academic life is one of creative studio orientation
and practical production. He uses the studio as his laboratory
and solves issues through the production of products. As an
artist and educator, Don develops creative products and invents
learning resources for teachers. His sole research activity
is based in the studio and in techno-ethnography. Both these
activities result in the continued development of creative
products and inventive learning resources for teachers. |
